One Vote To Rule Them All

Voter apathy is alive and well in Ontario and I suspect throughout the rest of the country. Less than 50% of registered voters voted in last weeks provincial election, resulting in the re-election of the chinless wonder, Dalton Mcguinty. This man is so overbearingly arrogant and embedded in the corruption of bureaucracy that he may even believe his own lies. No fan of the Conservatives, I voted for my Tory MPP incumbent simply because I could not stomach another for years of liberal incompetence, rather than vote Green, as is my want. I knew a vote Green was a wasted vote and would serve only to split the vote, helping, not hindering the liberals.

In the end, Mcguinty "government" was re-elected by a astounding 71%, and surprisingly, the poorly executed electoral reform referendum was quashed by a similar amount of 60% against. Given the issue of electoral reform is no small concept as presented, it reveals to me that those who voted against reform (wisely) yet still voted Liberal are either coming from a mindset of the devil you know is better than the devil you don't and thus fear change, or they are so completely ignorant of the matter that the choose the easiest path, vote for what you know (Mcguinty) and vote against what you don't.

In the end, half of Ontario didn't vote, and we got what we deserved for our apathy.
